Lightbulb moment! We’re building our first all-electric Premier Inn hotel
Our five-storey 195-bedroom hotel is the first Premier Inn to be designed without a connection to a natural gas supply. Instead, this hotel will be heated and powered fully by grid energy generated from renewable sources and by on-site photovoltaic (PV) cells.
Supporting Ukraine
As well as pledging to raise at least £500,000 in support of The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) and their international humanitarian effort, we’ve been working together with our incredible transport partners in order to donate over 50,000 duvet and pillow sets to help those affected by the war in Ukraine.

GOSH welcomes first patients to their brand-new Sight and Sound Centre
Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) opened the doors to its new specialist centre for children on 21st June, welcoming their first patients into the GOSH Sight and Sound Centre supported by Premier Inn. This building is the UK’s first dedicated medical facility for children with sight and hearing loss.

We’ve been amazed to see a 65% spike in demand for our comfy Premier Inn pillows over the last few months after a TikTok about them went viral. TikTok user @charconnor shared a video of her excitement on the app after ordering a pair of our pillows to enjoy at home.

Our Premier Inn Grimsby hotel had an unexpected guest with the delivery of a new-born baby boy on-site! On Sunday 7th February, first-time parents Harriet Hanson and Adam Smith from Skegness were making their way to Grimsby hospital after Harriet’s contractions started in the evening.

We’re collecting donations for GOSH this Christmas
Every child should have the chance to spend Christmas with their family. But for some children at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), their treatment needs to continue over the festive season. This Christmas, we’re supporting GOSH by collecting donations for their latest campaign, Home for Christmas.
A master key for a VIP – Santa Claus is coming to town!
We’ve got great news for any families staying at Premier Inn this Christmas. For the first time ever, we’ve created a master key for Father Christmas himself. This one-of-a-kind keycard is for the exclusive use of Father Christmas and will allow him to visit Premier Inn hotels across the UK to deliver presents on December 24th, 2020.
Serving up 200 tonnes worth of food for UK charities
Last week, we were proud to announce that as part of our Force for Good sustainability programme, we donated over half a million meals worth of surplus food to charity in 2020. It’s one of many steps we’re taking towards the larger goal of cutting our food waste in half by 2030, as well as working with suppliers and operational teams to reduce waste at every point in our supply chain.
A big welcome to our woolliest guest yet
Team members at our Premier Inn Holyhead hotel were left stunned when a sheep unexpectantly strolled through the doors and patiently began waiting for a lift. The fleecy fugitive, since nicknamed Sidney by staff, let itself into the hotel through the electric doors, sauntered into the 80-bed hotel from an adjacent field, giving reception team members the slip before trying to enter the lift.
Unnecessary single-use plastics to be removed from our hotels by 2025
We pledge to eliminate single-use plastics* from our hotels and restaurants by 2025. We’ve already started working closely with our suppliers to identify the single- use plastic we use across our organisation and find alternatives wherever possible.

With music playing such a big role in getting a good night’s rest, we wanted to investigate what music tracks people listen to the most when they want to fall asleep. So we analysed over 43,000 songs from 560 ‘sleep’ playlists on Spotify to discover the world’s fifty favourite songs to fall asleep to.
The most popular Halloween films around the world
We wanted to find out the most popular horror movies that people want to watch at Halloween, here in the UK, but also in other countries, to see if different places have different tastes in spooky shows. We analysed the number of online searches made every October for over 80 popular modern and classic horror movies across 15 countries around the world.

Pinterest is one of the most popular ways people like to plan; mapping out their dreams on inspiration boards, whether it’s a new home, a new wardrobe or the perfect holiday. In a post-pandemic world our travel plans remain uncertain, however it doesn’t stop us dreaming and planning where we would love to explore around the globe next.
Fit for royalty: UK counties holding the most Royal Warrants
To find out which part of the UK has the most Royal Warrants, we analysed the location of over 700 holders to see which areas provide the most goods and services to the royal households. For the sake of fairness, once we found out how many Royal Warrants each county held, we then considered this in relation to the population size.

Free pizzas for key workers at our London hotels
We’ve partnered with Deliveroo to serve almost 9,000 slices of pizza free of charge to NHS and key workers staying at our London hotels. 10 of our London hotels still open to key workers have been hosting weekly ‘Pizza Wednesdays’, with free pizza delivered by Deliveroo and their restaurant partner Pizza Hut.
We have donated 335,000 meals in support of Stop Food Waste Day
Thanks to our continued partnership with the food poverty charity network FareShare and our new partner, The Real Junk Food Project (TRJFP), our restaurants have donated over 140 tonnes of food, the equivalent of 335,000 meals, to those who need them most during the coronavirus pandemic.

Whitbread opens second hotel in Germany
Premier Inn says ‘Guten Tag’ to Hamburg as it opens the doors to its second hotel in Germany. The new 182-bed city centre site puts Premier Inn - which will operate around 20 hotels in the country by the end of 2020 - a step closer to becoming one of Germany’s biggest branded hotel chains.
